TIPS
TO INCREASE YOUR CREATIVITY
by Linda C. Butler Don't spend your life wishing that you are more creative; stop making excuses and start doing. One of the ways to increase creativity is to write a journal or "morning pages" which are several pages of long hand writing in a stream of consciousness. The object is to use the writing as a means to free the mind of the clutter that stops creativity. Music can inspire. Listening to different kinds of music can stimulate and fill our creative needs. Try to make a small change every day to increase your creativity. Cut out some of the time wasters in your life and spend a few minutes on a creative project. Spend time with nature. Enjoy the leaves and the crisp autumn air. Be aware of your surroundings. Look for the unexpected. Take your sketchbook with you and record your memories. Spend time with creative people and avoid negative people. Put your ideas in writing. The next time you refer to your notes or clippings the ideas may be much clearer. Combine ideas for a fresh approach. Accept that you will not always be successful, and that it's ok to fail. Give yourself permission to be creative. Unlock the old blocks to your creativity. Let go of your fear of failure, your stress and anxiety. Relax and enjoy the creative process. Look for ideas in different mediums than the one you are working in, for example, a fabric artist may be inspired by a painting. |
